30 August

Yesterday was gorgeous.

The sky was blue, the day was warm and Katrina and Brett came for a visit.

As Sam was finishing off the painting of the house that very morning, Brett was roped in to steady the ladder as Sam clambered up to the last rung to paint the highest most awkward part of the house.
Ruby is too much of a lightweight to steady said ladder and I too old to be clambering around inside the garden area where the ladder was positioned.

It may have taken over two years to decide on a house colour but this lengthy indecisive period has paid off.

The house looks fabulous!

As the window frames are black we narrowed it down to “dozens of shades of grey and brown” eventually deciding on Resene Triple Arrowtown, which actually was our first choice two years ago!!

In the afternoon we sat in the front garden reminiscing of years gone by under the warmth of the sun and admiring the new look Hobbs Family Home, looking ever so grand with its new coat of paint.

Nigel Latta

I love Nigel Latta.
There, it’s out there.
I would be proud to call him my son.
Actually he is an older version of my son Sam.
The similarities are definitely there.
Sensible, strong, witty, honest, dependable, oh yes I could go on but you get the picture
A few years ago, I met him fleetingly as  Ruby and I clambered onto a plane in Wellington which had been held for us as the flight from Hamilton was running late.  The first face I saw was a smiling Nigel Latta.  One of my claims to fame.
The following link is well worth reading folks.

Old Friends

Living only two kilometres off the State Highway and with this being the main route from Dunedin to Queenstown/Wanaka/Haast, we often have folk pop in for a cup of tea.

Whether it be a fleeting or lengthy visit it is always nice to catch up with friends.

Yesterday an old friend popped in and for the first time since Alex’s death, I could reminisce without the overwhelming sadness that used to prevail.

Of course we will miss Alex forever but time has now given us an acceptance of his death and we can smile and laugh about old times.

There will be tears occasionally but this is to be expected, as we were married for over twenty years and naturally a huge amount of wonderful memories  were made during this time. Thankfully we have photos to record so many of them.

Shortly after his death an elderly widow customer told me of how she felt so cheated when her husband was accidently killed four years into their marriage. She went on to say how she wished she’d had twenty years and all the memories that went with those years…..words that helped me immensely even though I felt so sad for her as she was indeed cheated.

Sam found the following photos last night , which shows “time does indeed go by fast, Ross.”

Feedback Update

You will have noticed the absence of comments over the past few months.
The reason being is that I have been bombarded with spam and some of it is quite vulgar and it is very time-consuming sorting out the genuine comments.

For the time being, would you please email your feedback as spam is filtered by my email server, which makes it easier for me.
I cannot believe that people could write such crude comments on my blog. Shame on them. But the good news is, the good outweigh the bad.

R.I.P Robin Williams

I am too upset to write of my love, gratitude, respect and admiration of this truly wonderful man who has left our world prematurely so I have posted President Obama’s tribute instead.

President Obama issued a touching tribute to the actor and comedian, and said: ‘Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan and everything in between.

But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.

‘He made us laugh. He made us cry.

He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.’
